Inspiration for this type comes from Qodec Search 8 or 9 and Spring Latch.
Solve online in Penpa+ or in Sudokupad.
Apply classic sudoku rules.
A digit in an arrow indicates the distance to a cell containing an 8 or a 9 in the indicated direction (not necessarily the 8 or 9 closest to it), with 1 pointing to the cell directly adjacent to it. Not all arrows are necessarily given.
Solution code: Row 3, followed by column 4

A lovely first half with a bit tricky scanning for a few particular clues in the later half, I had a good smile at the end :)
