Fixed Thermometers

(Published on 25. November 2024, 00:29 by Azvaril)

Hello. The thermometers in this puzzle have finally become useful: the digits on them increase with a constant value! I just forgot which value for which thermo...

Have a good time solving!

Solve on SudokuPad

Normal Sudoku rules apply. The digits 1 to 9 must be placed in each row, column and 3x3 box without repetition.

Fixed Thermometers: Digits along the thermometers strictly increase from the bulb to the tip by a fixed number. This number may vary for other thermometers and must be determined by the solver. However, this number must never be bigger than 6.
E.g. You may have one thermo: 2,4,6 (strictly increasing by 2), and a second thermo: 3,4,5 (strictly increasing by 1)

Solution code: Row 8, 9 digits left to right.

Fun! Thanks!

Excellent. The rules show that how to use strictly increase.
Eg. 1234 or 1357 or 147 are valid solution, but 136 or 2457 is not.
And for the last rule, 17 or 28 is a valid solution, but 18 is not.

Sorry, but I don't understand the thermo rule with the "fixed" number. Does that mean that, for example, this number can be 2 and then, for example, 2-4-6-8 follows on the thermometer? Or can a step not be larger than this number? For example, 2-3-5-7-8. Thanks for the clarification.

Thanks guys, you were right, I didn't test the case with a huge jump on one thermo. I've edited the description and updated the link. So everyone can have a better experience now.

Update rules and the link based on suggestions from the comments

Same as others, at least 3 solutions are possible that I found, based on the two thermos in box 9. I confirmed the extra constraint that sahi1l suggested will disambiguate the solution.

I found multiple solutions too. Add a rule that the jump along any thermometer is never bigger than 6, and I think that fixes it.

I think there are multiple solutions for this one, since I came to a valid solution by guessing that follows the rules but is not correct.
