Redundex

(Published on 21. November 2024, 15:52 by DubiousMobius)

This puzzle was created for Scojo's weekly setting prompt. This week the challenge was to have a constraint do double duty as a standard constraint both inside and outside the grid (like thermometers that act also act as skyscraper clues when the thermometer leaves the grid). I took a lot of inspiration from Chinstrap's incredible index line pack. Big thanks to Chinstrap and GDC for testing!

Rules:

Sudoku: In the 6x6 grid, place the digits 1-6 once each in every row, column, and box.

Index Lines: The digit in the Nth cell along the line, starting from the diamond, indicates the position along the line where the digit N appears. For example: 2143 would be a valid line (with 2 as the diamond); the 1st digit, 2, indicates that the 2nd digit is a 1, and so on. On lines without diamonds, the solver must determine which is the starting end of the line.

Numbered Rooms: Cells on index lines that are outside the grid must contain a digit between 1 and 6, which will indicate the digit to be placed in the Nth cell from that side in that row/column, where N is the digit in the first cell in that row/column.
