Thank You Very Much!

Thank You Very Much!, by James Sinclair

Fill the grid with nine non-overlapping 3x3 square regions, such that each region contains the digits 1-9 once each and no digit repeats in any row or column. Cells outside regions do not contain digits.
Each cage must contain digits that sum to the given total, and digits cannot repeat within a cage.
Digits on the thermometer increase from the bulb.
Along green lines, each digit must differ from the next digit on the line by at least 5.
Region borders divide blue lines into segments with the same sum.
(Cells without digits are ignored for the purposes of cages and line clues.)

SudokuPad

This is a puzzle that I originally set for Malrog as a reward for his donation during a recent SudokuCon fundraiser, and am publishing it here with his blessing and encouragement.

For anyone not aware, SudokuCon is a gathering of fans and designers of sudokus and other puzzle types that will be held in Boston, Massachusetts (USA) April 3-6, 2025.

Also! On November 23-24, there will be a 24-hour live stream on Twitch to promote the event and kick off ticket sales. It's going to be a full day of entertainment across a variety of puzzle-related topics, and there will be more opportunities to earn a custom puzzle like this one, so if that interests you at all, be sure to check it out. Thanks!

Solution code: row 10, with 0 in place of any cell without a digit (11 digits)

I have a question about what strikes me as a linguistic ambiguity. When you say that cells without digits are ignored for the purposes of German Whisper line clues, does that mean that the clue "skips over" empty cells or that it vacuously satisfies the constraint?

For example, if 0 signifies an empty cell, could you have 1-0-2 along a three-digit line?

Thank you for all your excellent puzzles.

--

That might be a more philosophical question than I'm prepared to answer :), but for this puzzle it means the clue skips over empty cells

What an absolutely beautiful puzzle. When I first started I almost self-defeated thinking there was no way I could solve it. But every single step was doable and incredibly satisfying. Thank you so much!

Personally, I don't see what's wrong with advertising a Sudoku or Puzzle event that isn't affiliated with Logic Masters or the World Puzzle Federation.

A very fun and clean decon puzzle overall, even though it took me longer than expected to deduce the parts around that T whisper line :)

I loved solving this puzzle when I first saw it, and was pleased to be able to record my solve. I am glad it has a wider audience. Somehow the German puzzling community has found a way to act as host for a whole world of puzzles - and become one of the go-to places for the very best for solvers and setters from around the world.

I never want to take that for granted, but I hugely appreciate it.

I will likely not make it to SudokuCon - but I do know that it is intended to be an open in-person event by and for the worldwide Sudoku community. Personally I hope it is a great success (like this platform), because I get a great deal of pleasure from these puzzles.

@bigger
In case it's not clear, LMD has nothing to do with SudokuCon, and no fundraising is being done through this site. It's a project that I'm involved with, and I thought this puzzle would be a good opportunity to let people know about it. I don't think there are any issues with that, but if I hear otherwise from moderators I'll make changes to this post or take it down.

wait, i just happened to hunt for ideas today, and this is what sudoku front page become? an ad? for a con that's not in Germany? a link to a non-lmd page? getting fund through this website? sure this is a site for people to share puzzles, but if you share puzzles to get money or fund in here, you are disgracing every setter who don't post puzzles for financial reasons. It's supposed to be German official website not USA official. why is it everytime i hop onto the Sudoku page i see triggering stuff. i hope it's not Gresham effect in full swing.
sure i know the mods are not going to do anything because they gave up already. but shouldn't the poster be more aware of what effect he's going to make here. know this, if the Sudoku tag get involved with money, mods may take down the whole site to avoid legal problem like illegal fundraising. Don't get them to think Sudoku posters are potential trouble maker, please.

This puzzle has a very good light difficulty curve! It starts with interesting, fun to spot, yet simple deductions near the break-in, and slowly gets a little more complex as you near the finish line. If you've never solved a Chaos Construction before I would highly recommend this as a first foray into the genre!

This was such a beautiful deconstruction puzzle. Surprisingly accessible, but certainly not easy.

This was such a fun solve. I'm subscribed to Artisanal Sudoku and would LOVE to see more chaos construction puzzles on there :)

A wonderfully fun puzzle, kept me entertained all the way through the solve, even when I was repeatedly a bit of a numpty! Quite the honour to have such a thing made for me, thank YOU very much James.

Great puzzle, but tough one (for me) until the end. Took a while to wrap my head around the neat logic with shifting 3x3 square regions around.

Thanks for setting&sharing!
