Crab Net (with Math Pesto)
(Published on 29. October 2024, 11:42 by Paletron)
This puzzle was created in collaboration with
Math Pesto for a setting event held by mnasti2 in Sudoku Skunkworks. We made this puzzle by combining some aspects of RemotelyEntropic by Palfly Kampling
and Crab Walk by juggler.
Rules:
- Fillomino: Divide the grid into polyominoes so that polyominoes of the same size don't share an edge. Each cell contains a number equal to its polyomino's size.
- Entropic Loop: Draw an orthogonal loop through the grid. The loop must not touch itself orthogonally; however, it can touch diagonally. On the line, any set of three consecutive cells must contain one low (1,2,3), one middle (4,5,6), and one high (7,8,9) digit.
- Crab: A number N on a crab means it is about to take N steps sideways, landing in a cell on the loop or inside the loop, with a number less than or equal to N. Crab paths do not intersect. Crabs can move on/inside the loop, but once they are on/inside, they can’t exit the loop. (In other words, all crabs get caught by the loop and they can't escape it)
Example:
Here is a small example of a possible grid to showcase our recommended notation and some rule clarification.
Crab in r2c1 moves onto a cell inside/on the loop, with a number less than or equal to itself, and it can't move any farther right because it would exit the loop.
Puzzle:
Solution code: Numbers on the loop in Row 4

Fun and a bit tricky in some areas. Thanks to both of you :)

Awesome puzzle, the inspirations were combined brilliantly with some beautiful interactions! I found it tricky but very smooth once you understand the implications of the ruleset.
