Wichtels (später) Rätselsommer 2024 (13 und Schluss): Doppelte Freude

(Published on 29. October 2024, 20:25 by wichtel)

To Christmas 2023 some eager puzzlefriends have again arranged a group in which everybody had to make anonymously a puzzle for someone else. These puzzles are now presented one after the other here in the portal.

Place the 12 pentominoes into the grid, so that all of them are touching diagonally, but not orthogonally. The pentomino cells are shaded. An arrow in a cell points to the second-nearest shaded cell. If more than one shaded cell is equally far, then there will be one arrow for each applicable direction. Cells with arrows must not be shaded. Given numeric clues may lie on shaded or on unshaded cells.
Place a number in each cell with arrows, which indicates the distance to the second-nearest shaded cell or cells.
The remaining 120 cells form a valid Meidjuluk (N=15) puzzle. The Meidjuluk consists of a single contiguous (i.e., orthogonally connected) Viginticentomino. Numbers in the Meidjuluk area, including those with arrows, are Meidjuluk clues. The Meidjuluk does not contain any zeros.
To solve the Meidjuluk, divide the region into areas of size 1 to 15. Each size occurs exactly once, and each region must only contain factors of its size, with none appearing more than once in the same region. For example, the region of size 6 may contain any combination of the numbers 1, 2, 3, and/or 6, including none of these.
Finally, draw a loop into the diagram which moves from one cell center orthogonally to the next, without crossings and without visiting any cell more than once. Each Meidjuluk region is visited exactly once, and the same goes for each pentomino that doesn't contain a zero. Three segments of the loop are already given. In every Meidjuluk-Region the loop must visit a number of cells corresponding to a factor of the region size. Thus the 15-region must contain 1, 3, 5, or 15 loop cells. In a pentomino with a given digit, the loop must visit that number of cells. Cells with numbers may, but are not required to, be traversed by the loop.

Solution code: In row 2, first the lengths of the horizontal stretches of loop, then for each cell the size of the enclosing Meidjuluk Region (which might be a two-digit number) or the letter corresponding to the enclosing pentomino. The same for column 10 with regard to vertical stretches.

@zuzanina: 1. Ja!!! ;-)))

Finally figured it out. It is really a nice puzzle once the rules are understood.
@PrimeWeasel: your example will certainly help other solvers.

Here's an example of how to interpret the rules, mainly notice that there is no arrow pointing to the right

I'd also like to make clear that I told the setter that I did not think the rules were very clear regarding these arrows.

R5C3 could even be black here

@Nensche777 'Do you mean that as soon as I see a black cell in a direction, I ignore what’s “behind” it?' Yes

I gave up a while ago after trying to interpret the arrow rule many different ways and it breaking immediately every time

@Nensche777 Arrows point to directions with the second nearest cells. If a direction has a nearest cell, there will never be a second nearest cell in that same direction. R10C11 being black doesn't exclude R11C11 from being black too.

@PrimeWeasel: Nensche777 can't read your comment. You have to write visible..

Vielen lieben Dank meinem Wichtel!
