Habitat 67

(Published on 15. October 2024, 18:35 by sfushidahardy)

Another puzzle for a weekly Scojo prompt: "make a puzzle using the Dutch flatmates constraint". I hope you enjoy it!

  • Fillomino: Subdivide the grid into orthogonally connected regions such that regions of the same size do not share a border, and fill every cell with the number equal to the size of its region. Each "?" represents a digit from 1 to 9 which must be deduced.
  • Dutch flatmates: every cell containing the number 5 either has a number-1 cell above it, or a number-9 cell below it (or both).
  • Mod-3 groups: all cells containing numbers which are equal modulo 3 form a single orthogonally connected group. This means every cell in the grid belongs to one of three orthogonally connected groups. (I recommend shading cells to keep track.)

Solve Habitat 67 in Penpa+ (recommended).

Solve Habitat 67 in Sudokupad.

Solution code: The sizes of the regions overlapping column 2, from top to bottom. (several numbers, no spaces. One number per region.)

Great puzzle. Clever ruleset with interesting consequences, executed very well. Smooth puzzle, and not too difficult (given prior knowledge of certain concepts).

Delightful from start to finish! I enjoyed how varied each 5 region's logic felt. I'm also particularly partial to that row 4 question mark. Thanks for setting!

Great ! Strange and beautiful, as mentioned before. Thanks :)

The interactions between the rulesets is so excellent in Habitat 67 that it's incomprehensible that this particular combination has never been done before.

I also love how the implications of the interacting rulesets seem strange at first, but by the end of the solve seem second-nature.

Awesome puzzle! The Dutch flatmates constraint interacts very nicely with the fillomino and mod-3 groups.
