6x6 Flat Pack: Volume 1 (Dutch Flat Mates)

(Published on 15. October 2024, 15:56 by gdc)

This pack celebrates the 1 year anniversary of the Dutch Flat Mates constraint by Flinty. They all use a 6x6 variation of the Dutch Flat Mates constraint called Polish Flat Mates. Thanks to the testers. Hope you enjoy!

Puzzle Details

All puzzles use normal 6x6 sudoku rules and Polish Flat Mates. Each puzzle contains one additional constraint.

  • 6x6 Sudoku rules: Place the digits 1-6 in every empty cell such that no digit repeats in a row, column or box.
  • Polish Flat Mates: Every 2 in the grid needs a 1 directly above it or a 4 directly below it. It may have both, but it doesn't need both.
  • German Whisper Lines: Adjacent digits on a green line differ by 3 or more.
  • Renban Lines: Digits on a pink line form a set of non-repeating consecutive digits in any order.
  • Successor Arrows: If a digit N is in an arrow cell, the digit N+1 must be placed N steps away in the indicated direction. e.g. if r1c5 is 2, then r1c3 is 3.

Volume 1?

I have a few more of these lined up and will likely release them soon. This pack is meant as an introduction to the constraint. Edit: Volume 2 is released now!

Solution code: The first 3 digits from row 6 of each puzzle (3 digits each, 9 digits total)

Thank you for this fantastic puzzle pack, gdc! So far I had only known about Dutch and Australian flat mates, but the Polish flat mates were huge fun as well. It is gorgeous what creative logic you can put into these small grids. I liked all three and can't decide between renban and successor arrows which was my overall favourite. Thank you for setting and sharing!

The first two puzzles were quite straightforward, but the third was a little nightmare. Perhaps I'm too used to standard constraints after all
