Hot Potato

(Published on 8. October 2024, 12:46 by sujoyku)

This almost is a pure killer sudoku, but there is a fine yet important difference. Adjacent cages always must share a common digit. I like to thank all testers and, in particular, Calvinball, Mad-Tyas, MattdDraig and Joel for their feedback. As always, your comments are much appreciated. I wish you happy solving!

- Normal sudoku rules apply, i.e. each row, column and 3x3 region has to contain the digits from 1 to 9 once each.

- Killer cages: Digits in a cage do not repeat and sum to the clue in the top left. Moreover, if cages are adjacent to each other (i.e. share an edge), they have to contain at least one common digit.

Here you can solve the puzzle online:

for emphasizing put the mention of the additional killer cage rule into bold type, no changes to the contents of the puzzle

Always... ALWAYS read all the rules before solving.

I was surprised how this could have a 1 star difficulty when I just couldn't seem to find the break-in.

Then I read the rules again.

**
Thank you for your comment, Megalobrainiac! I hope that issue did not give you too much headache. I might put the mention of the additional rule in bold type. I hope you had a fun solve after all.
Kind regards, sujoyku

Very satisfying solve once you work out the cascading effects - and how to mark them!

**
Thank you for your comment, faltenin! That kind of cascading logic was very much intended. I am glad that you found the solve to be satisfying.
