Tetropolis

(Published on 4. October 2024, 17:18 by sfushidahardy)

This puzzle is inspired by MaizeGator's Let It Go and mathpesto's Thirteen Ghosts. I hope you enjoy it!

Solve Tetropolis on Penpa+.

Rules: This is a tetrochain puzzle with skyscraper clues.
  • Tetrochain: place some tetrominoes (blocks of four shaded cells) in the grid. Tetrominoes may not share any edges, but they must form a single diagonally connected network. Additionally, two tetrominoes which touch at a corner must have different shapes (counting reflections and rotations as the same).
  • Skyscraper clues: in a given row or column, each contiguous sequence of shaded or unshaded cells is called a 'skyscraper'. The 'height' of a skyscraper is the number of cells it is composed of. Each number outside the grid is the number of skyscrapers that can be seen from the clue in the corresponding row or column, where a skyscraper can be seen if it is taller than all preceding skyscrapers. (For clarity, in rows, skyscrapers are horizontal.)

Here is a smaller example puzzle and solution, which can also be solved on Penpa+.

Solution code: The tetrominoes (L,I,T,S,O) in row 20 from left to right (i.e. 3rd row from the bottom). (No spaces between characters)

Great puzzle ! Lots of cool skyscraper/connectivity deductions. Surprisingly minimally clued too. Some areas resolve magically. Thanks :)
