When I Think About You...

(Published on 1. October 2024, 01:35 by marty_sears)

Rules:

  • Normal sudoku rules apply.
  • LOOP: Draw a one-cell-wide loop that moves orthogonally between cells. The loop never touches itself orthogonally, but it touches itself diagonally several times.
  • THOUGHT BUBBLES: A thought bubble always emanates from one of the two cells where the loop is touching itself diagonally. The sum of these two cells is displayed inside the thought bubble (reading from left to right if the bubble covers two cells.) Eg: if the loop touches itself diagonally with the touching digits being a 4 and an 8, then either the 4 or the 8 would be 'thinking about' the sum of these two digits, 12, which would appear inside its thought bubble.
  • UNIQUE THOUGHTS: Every thought bubble contains a different total.
  • RULES ABOUT TOUCHING: To clarify, for the loop to be considered touching itself diagonally, the two touching cells must have more than one intermediary cell between them along the loop. (In other words, the two cells either side of a 90° turn in the loop don't count; even though these cells do touch diagonally, the loop is not considered to be touching itself here, as it is just turning.)
  • ALTERNATING PARITY: Digits along the loop alternate between even and odd.
  • BLACK DOTS: Digits separated by a black dot have a 1:2 ratio.
  • Example of what a small loop touching itself once might look like:

I, I, I, I, I, I, I enjoyed this very much after being drawn in by the title. Took a moment to recognise the implications of the diagonal connections with orthogonal movement, but after searching myself this was very nice.

In retrospect, I should have used the pen tool to mark where the loop touches itself.

Lovely puzzle, although it took me longer than I care to admit to get going. For some reason my brain chose to ignore the lower hanging fruit.

Lovely puzzle. I got stuck a bit scanning for proper pairs of numbers, but the overall solving experience was astounding

No cupcake here! Poor Finkz has to move around and around not finding anything? ;-) Thank you very much for creating and sharing another wonderful puzzle involving a completely new idea.

I normally find the loop puzzles more involved than I like, but I'm pleased that I persevered with this one! Very fun. Thank you!
