The Grass Is Always Greener in the Fog

(Published on 26. September 2024, 00:43 by Elytron)

This puzzle is a sequel to my recent puzzle 19 Shapes of Grey, where I was surprised by how well it went. Since I don't like creating a puzzle with exactly the same ruleset, there is an extra rule in this puzzle introducing green shapes. If this puzzle is also well received, I might make more, as I still have some ideas in mind!

Solve with SudokuPad.

Rules:

  • Normal Sudoku rules apply.

  • Digits separated by a black shape are in a 1:2 ratio, digits separated by a white shape are consecutive, and digits separated by a gray shape are neither. Green shapes don't have such a restriction.

  • Shapes are made up of semi-circles and semi-squares, resulting in either a full circle, a full square, or a "circle-square"; these may be rotated in any direction.
  • Digits separated by a circle add up to 9; digits separated by a circle-square add up to 12; and digits separated by a square add up to 15.

  • Fog: The grid is partially covered with fog. Correctly placed digits will clear the fog around that cell. No guessing is required.
The possible shapes are as follows:

Solution code: Row 9 from left to right (9 digits).

I completed the puzzle but the solution was not correct. The sudoku is correct and the other constraints seem correct too. I don't know what i did wrong. I didn't use any guessing. could there be 2 solutions?

Hey, I don't think there are multiple solutons, as I've seen quite a few people solve it and uniquely find the correct one. If you're sure you entered the solution code correctly, you can maybe contect me on discord with your solution and I'll take a look at it! :) -Elytron

Really nice mix of phases where you have to do a lot of deep thinking (particularly the break-in was the toughest for me) and those where things just become obvious and you get four or five digits in a row!

It took me a bit to get started in the top left, but once I reread the rules a few times and understood how to begin, the puzzle became very fun!

Very clever! I see a lot of potential with these ambiguous shapes :)
