Parent Trap

(Published on 22. September 2024, 22:48 by PulverizingPancake)

Place a number from 1 to 9 into each empty cell such that no two adjacent cells contain the same number, even diagonally. For each cell, each possible number less than the number the cell contains must appear at least once in the (up to) eight surrounding cells.

Small clues in the top-left corner of a cell give the sum of the (up to) five cells that touch the clue, including the cell itself.

4 stars difficulty, in my opinion.

I admire this construction very much, and I think you squeezed a lot of very cool logic out of the idea. The finish is very satisfying. I hope others will give it a try as it's rather sadly under-rated.

Had a lot of fun with this, never tried a puzzle like this before. A lot of bifurcating but it was satisfying the whole way.
