Is Zipper A Zodiac Sign?

(Published on 19. September 2024, 15:14 by gdc)

This is my submission to Scojos secret imposter prompt. I tried to make it as gdc as possible, but ViKingPrime out-gdcd me with S-Duality. Thanks to all the testers. Hope you enjoy!

  • Sudoku: Normal Sudoku rules apply.
  • Fog Of War: The grid is covered in fog. Placing correct digits reveals clues in the surrounding 3x3 area.
  • Spiral Galaxies: Divide the grid into galaxies: orthogonally connected groups of cells that have 180 degree rotational symmetry about their centers (marked with a large circle). All cells must be part of a galaxy; no galaxies overlap.
  • No Repeats: Digits may not repeat in a galaxy.
  • Zipper Galaxies: A "Z" orbiting a galaxy center marks a zipper galaxy where each digit and the cell rotationally opposite to it sum to the circled digit.
  • Galaxy Totals: If given, a digit orbiting a galaxy center shows the sum of all digits in that galaxy.

I really enjoyed this one, found it surprisingly not too difficult.
Thanks gdc for this one.

I thought I broke the puzzle being convinced that a „group of cells“ must contain at least two of them… Lost in desperation I decided to bifurcate - and then remembered that other galaxy puzzles of course made use of these small pieces. Sorry, it’s a great puzzle, but I didn’t really solved it.
