Was inspired by my own
Rat Run series to make more line drawing puzzles, but
I wanted two new animals so I made this.
Rules:
- Normal sudoku rules apply: place the digits 1-9 once each in every row, column, and 3x3 box.
- RACE: The Hare and the Tortoise must race in orthogonal or diagonal steps, and must not enter ponds, or cross or overlap each other or themselves, apart from at the finish line, where they both end.
- HARE: The Hare must enter every box exactly once each (including box 9 - starting in box 9 does NOT count as entering it). The Hare's racing line will be a valid Super Fast Thermo - ie. digits along it increase by at least 3 at a time, but the Hare has a nap at every box border and the Thermo may begin again on any digit in the next cell.
- TORTOISE: The Tortoise's racing line will be a valid Slow Thermo - ie. digits along it may not decrease.
- FOX: The Fox declares the winner by displaying a digit that does NOT appear on the winner's racing line.
- DUCK: Digits separated by the Duck sum to 5.

(This puzzle was created for Scojo's Impostor prompt, in which I was given the task of impersonating the great Marty Sears. As much as I'm very flattered by the suggestion, I can confirm that he and I are not, in fact, the same person!)
Solution code: The sum of the digits on the largest pond

Terrific race, but I suspect the fox was biased, as he hinted at the winner long before the race was done.
