Entangled 159 (Modular lines, Palindrome)

(Published on 9. September 2024, 09:24 by jcgodart)

Rules:

  • Normal sudoku rules apply.
  • Normal 159 rules: the digits in column 1 gives the column number where the 1 is located within the row. The same applies to the 5 in column 5 and the 9 in column 9.
  • Palindrome: the sequence of digits along grey lines reads the same in both directions.
  • Modular lines: each sequence of 3 successive digits along teal lines must contain one of each residue modulo 3, which are {1,4,7}, {2,5,8} and {3,6,9}.
  • Digits joined by a black dot are in the ratio 1:2. Digits joined by a white dot are consecutive. Digits joined by an X sum to 10. Not all dots and Xs are necessarily given.

Spectacular setting! This puzzle was so beautiful and tricky. Definitely a 4/5 difficultly for me but I’m sure i didn’t find the easiest path. The break in took 45 minutes but i made steady discoveries throughout that made it satisfying. After the break in it took 10 minutes to fill the rest out.

I love 159s, but this was still something completely different. Very clever how those lines interact here.

I have to say that to me this was clearly harder than 2/5, maybe 3 or even 4.

Curious to see what others think.
