This puzzle has been featured on Cracking the Cryptic

Equilibrium

This puzzle combines both the hot and cold arrows rules. To familiarize yourself with these rules, try out the 6x6 puzzles Rising Heat, and Cold Snap.

Rules:

  • Normal Sudoku rules apply. Place every digit from 1 to 9, once each, into every row, column, and 3x3 region.
  • Hot arrows: An orange arrow points toward a cell N distance away that has a value greater than N, where N is the digit in the arrow's cell. (For example, if r1c2 is 5, then r6c2 is greater than 5.)
  • Cold arrows: A blue arrow points toward a cell N distance away that has a value less than N, where N is the digit in the arrow's cell. (For example, if r9c8 is 5, then r4c8 is less than 5.)
  • Diagonal: Digits may not repeat along the blue diagonal.

I was wavering between 2-3 stars for difficulty when I published it, and decided to go with the lower. Per the multiple comments below, I'm editing to make it show as 3 stars (though once it has been rated a few more times, the difficulty will be set by the solvers rather than myself).

I agree with the difficulty rating being too low, but a fantastic puzzle either way!

Harder than 2-star for me, but very satisfying once it came together.

I initially didn't know how to start with this ruleset, but it all came together nicely. Great setting!
