Just an Average Day

(Published on 1. September 2024, 22:30 by sahi1l)

  • Normal Sudoku rules apply.
  • Each line, thermometer, and cage has the same average value; said value must be determined by the solver.
  • German Whispers: Consecutive digits on a green line differ by at least 5. (Both green lines are three digits long.)
  • Renban: Digits on a purple line form a consecutive set of digits.
  • Thermometers: Digits on a grey thermometer strictly increase from the bulb end.
  • Kropki dots: Digits separated by a white dot are consecutive.
  • X/V: Digits separated by an X sum to 10. Digits separated by a V sum to 5.

Why should this have a rating of 4? It is really easy. 1,5 I think.

SAM: You might be much better at Sudoku than I am? (I imagine the skillsets of the solvers here are all over the map). I really don't know how to rate my own puzzles; and I thought finding the average value would be a little tricky. Ah well.

Clarified that thermometers counted as lines.

I was a bit unsure of the rules, specifically whether a thermometer was considered to be a line. I tried not assuming that, but after a while I couldn't make any more progress, so then I did assume it, and eventually found the solution.
I also wondered why box 8 has a cage instead of another blue line, but that didn't slow me down.
Anyway, I enjoyed the puzzle, especially figuring out the average. Thanks.

Good point about the thermometer; I'll tweak the rules. Thanks for solving it!
