Saturday Night!

(Published on 1. September 2024, 01:02 by RedBarchetta)

Correction CornerApologies! After building and testing the puzzle, I removed two clues that appeared to have become extraneous in the end. The bottom row of box 4 had a 16 cage to force the 6 into the second row of that box. That was properly removed. However!! Box 9 had an "X" clue on the digit 1 to put a 9 in the 24 cage of box 7. That was improperly removed! I thought the X was extraneous because as I tested the puzzle, I knew it was a three cell cage. But I forgot that I shouldn't know that! Let this be a cautionary tale to me! So sorry for that. The new and corrected puzzle link is included, and the old link will stand as a shame shame shameful reminder!"

Rules:

Normal sudoku and normal variant rules apply.

Place the digits 1 to 9 once each in every row, column, and 3x3 box.

Arrows: digits on an arrow sum to the digit in the bulb of the arrow.

German Whisper: Consecutive digits on a green line must have a difference of 5 or more.

Kropki dots: Digits on black dots are a 2:1 ratio.

Kropki dots: Digits on white dots are consecutive.

Killer cages: Digits in cages do not repeat and sum to the value (if given) in the top left cell of the cage.

Fog: Use that Moon Light (place correct digits) to clear that fog and go have some fun tonight!

Commentary Corner: This is the most fun you will have on this Saturday night! Fun and flow scale = 10/10!

I feel like I missed something obvious (but I'm doubtful since I stared at it for longer than i care to admit) because it was going very very smooth and quick and then a giant wall hit, and once I did a variety of small deductions eventually I cracked through and the rest was smooth like butter again

(I was on the correct link, to be clear)

as penance, you must create more puzzles

Hahaha!!! I spent an hour staring at it before I read the comments. Once I saw the comment about the 24 cage I was away again. Good one!

The arrow was needed as I built it - but it also became extraneous. By adding clues at the end to disambiguate, the arrow became redundant. I should have removed that too.

Why the arrow?

YES! Shame and a POX on me! This is my first FOW puzzle, so building and testing were a new experience. I removed clues after building that I thought became extraneous. One of them was. The other was NOT! You are all correct that the 24 cage must be assumed a three cell cage. The corrected puzzle link is included - and I throw myself on the mercy of the court! Thanks for the feedback and hopefully a better Sunday night!

I removed a clue after testing that should have remained.

And nobody has so far - at least unhidden - complained about the missing Renban section here in the instructions ;) .

it might not be saturday night, but it was indeed the most fun i ever had. may i suggest adding "additionally, all 24 cages are of size 3" to the ruleset so it doesn't have multiple solutions?

on 1. September 2024, 13:54 by VitP
instead of 5 people all ASKING "is something wrong here?", the first person should just STATE "i think a clue is missing". with millions of puzzles on this site, errors WILL creep in. there may be a tiny chance that the puzzle can be solved as is, but it is CERTAIN that it could not then also be difficulty 1.

I also had to guess the 24 cage

on 1. September 2024, 12:18 by CaballeroOscuro
Is this even possible to solve without guessing the size of the 24-cage?

on 1. September 2024, 11:37 by Eepowiz
Does anyone have an idea how to continue without quessing cage 24:s size? I was stuck on it for ages and just quessed

on 1. September 2024, 10:46 by Hajuhn
i don't see how to continue without guessing the size of the 24 cage

on 1. September 2024, 06:04 by RedBarchetta
@Nylimb - me too!

Sadly, the commentary is probably true... Thanks.
I didn't use the arrow.
