No RePEAts!

(Published on 30. August 2024, 20:34 by sujoyku)

After setting two collaboration puzzles with SamuPiano, this is my first solo attempt at constructing a split pea lines puzzle. Being also inspired by the Zodiac Project puzzle series initiated by ViKingPrime, I have added the condition that the circles form a disjoint set, i.e. contain a complete set of the digits from 1 to 9. I like to thank SamuPiano not only for introducing me to the wonderful split pea lines constraint, but also for testing this puzzle. As always, your comments are much appreciated. I wish you happy solving!

- Normal sudoku rules apply, i.e. each row, column and 3x3 region has to contain the digits from 1 to 9 once each.

- Disjoint set: The circles contain a complete set of the digits from 1 to 9. In other words, no two circles may contain identical digits.

- Split pea lines: The sum of the digits on a line strictly between two circles is equal to a concatenation of the two values in the circles, in some order. For instance, 3_346_1 could be a valid split pea line, as 3+4+6=13, which is 1 concatenated with 3.

Here you can solve the puzzle online:

A wonderful example of a break-in that is relatively easy, but still very nice to find. Thanks!

This was the first time I had seen this rule set. It took me a while to work out what looked like an impossible grid, but logic prevailed ;-)

Very nice puzzle!

**
Thank you for your comment, Ryx! When I encountered the split peas constraint, I also needed to get my head around it first. But it quickly became my recent favourite to set with. I am glad that it worked out for you and that you liked the puzzle.
