Heated Chaos

(Published on 24. August 2024, 01:45 by yttrio)

This is another sequel of sorts to Pointed Chaos, and should be more approachable than that one. Estimated difficulty is between 3 and 4 stars.

Rules:

Chaos Construction: Each row, column, and region must contain the digits 1-9 once each. Regions consist of a set of nine orthogonally connected cells and must be determined by the solver.

Along thermometers, digits must strictly increase from the bulb to the tip.

The digit in each thermometer's bulb is also equal to the number of cells from the same region (including itself) that the bulb sees in all orthogonal directions combined. Region borders block the view.

Solution code: Row 5 with hyphens where there are region borders (e.g., 123-4567-89)

Appreciated a gentle opening but overall it was very challenging. I can't tell if I missed some steps or the intended steps were a bit of a reach beyond my skillset

This is a lovely CC puzzle with a very interesting ruleset. The break-in is obvious but the difficulty but the logic post-50% stage is quite intricate and the solve thereafter is very satisfying. This is worthy of a CtC feature. Thanks for sharing.

I loved when my yellow and green regions ended up acting as I'd hoped they'd act! Great puzzle :)

This one certainly warmed me up! Also feel free to hide if this is too much of a spoiler, but I still think the purple region was my favorite :P
