Suns and Moons
(Published on 31. August 2024, 14:17 by H.Bell)
After the "sun" idea from my previous puzzle, I had to make one with "moons." Enjoy :)
Play on SudokuPad
Rules:
Normal 9x9 sudoku rules apply; Place the digits 1-9 once each in every row, column, and 3x3 box.
Nonconsecutive: Orthogonally adjacent digits may not be consecutive (i.e. they may not have a difference of one).
Anti-knight: The digits in the yellow (Sun) cells may not repeat in any cell that is a knight's move away from it (a knight's move as defined in the rules of chess). Not all cells with this constraint are necessarily given.
Anti-King: The digits in the gray (Moon) cells may not repeat in any cell that is a king's move away from it (a king's move as defined in the rules of chess). Not all cells with this constraint are necessarily given.
Solution code: The first (topmost) row, left to right.

Here's a link to my solve of the puzzle. It was fun!

I think I solved this without ever using the moon (anti-king) constraint? I'll have to do it again and see if that's true.
I like the partial anti-knight, even if it makes scanning for singles trickier.

Absolutely loved this puzzle. Anti-knight constraints that don't apply throughout the puzzle is something I've worked with and set as well and I think it's an absolute game changer rule. Thank you for setting and sharing!

Tough one. Job well done.
