Knights X-ing Swords

(Published on 16. August 2024, 00:53 by DubiousMobius)

I set this one way back before zipper lines were a thing, and there's definitely a tiny bit of zipper DNA in the themes it explores. But mostly it's just good fun anti-knight coloring, so long as that's your jam. Something in the symmetry reminded me of a joust, hence the title. Hopefully you don't find it too tilting.
All feedback is appreciated, and thanks for playing!

Rules:
Place the digits 1-9 once each in each row and column of the grid.

Black dots separate cages which have sums in a ratio of 2:1.
Grey and orange lines are X-palindromes. Any two cells an equal distance from the end of a line must sum to ten. (The first and last cells, for example). If they have a middle cell, it may contain any digit.
Cells a chess knight's move apart may not contain the same digit.
Digits may not repeat along the indicated diagonal.

I loved this! I was about to give up, because I couldn't figure out any way to start and was about to give up several times throughout the puzzle. I like how there are a lot of little different ways to look at it in order to solve it

DM: So glad you enjoyed it! I was definitely aiming to have a wide range of logic be useful in the solve, so I'm glad that worked out for you. :)

For me, one of those puzzles where you think you'll never get going then all of a sudden: aha! Well done.

I'd add the comment about the middle being able to be any digit here too - I started by plopping 5s down in the middle of the odd lines and then immediately breaking the diagonal

DM: Copy that, thanks for letting me know. Rules updated accordingly.

DM: Second edit, I realized I got kropki dot misplaced when transcribing this puzzle. So sorry!
