Rules:
- Normal Sudoku rules apply.
- In this puzzle: all Active Cells must also be Friendly Cells
(see definitions below)
- Squares: There are exactly 3 Friendly Cells which are Not Active.
The squares mark the locations of these cells.
- Circles: count the number of Friendly Cells (both Active and Inactive), including themselves, in the surrounding 3x3 neighborhood.
All possible circles are given.
- Diamonds: contain the sum of circled digits in either their row or their column (not both).
Diamonds are shown for every row and column with more than one circle.
Definitions:
- Active Cells
A cell is said to be "Active" or "Activated" if it can be the target cell of a valid numbered rooms clue. That is, if it is N cells from the edge of the grid, where N is the digit in the cell at that edge (at one end its row or column). It is possible for a cell to be activated multiple times (up to once for each of the four edges of the grid).
- Friendly Cells
A cell is said to be "Friendly" if it contains a digit that matches its Row, Column, or Box number. Note that it is possible for some cells to have more than one "type" of Friendliness. For example, a 5 in R5C5 would have all three types: (Row, Column, and Box).
