Anti-Anti-Knight

(Published on 15. August 2024, 07:39 by fakey)

Rules are as follows:

Normal Sudoku rules apply. (Place the digits 1-9 once each in every row, column, and 3x3 box.)

Cells separated by a white dot have a difference between them of either 1 or 2, indicated by the number in the dot. Not all dots are given.

For each of the digits 5, 6, 7, 8, and 9, there must be at least one of the same digit a knight's move away.

For each digit 1, that digit must see at least one other 1 a bishop's move away. (That is to say, diagonally, any distance.)

A brilliant ruleset, and a very good puzzle.

My friend you made an interesting puzzle with a unusual constraint. I'm happy to have had another crack at it today. The video and apology was appreciated. But we've all made mistakes, and indeed you made a mistake doing something that I am far too cowardly to do, ie. creating a puzzle.
Had fun with this in the end :)

—I appreciate the kind words. I will take from this a lesson to be more diligent before uploading... Thank you again! —Fakey

Fixed puzzle, added video explaining the error I'd made and the solution path. Enormous apologies to JGILB, japanoise_breakfast, and anyone else who put time into the puzzle as previously uploaded, and thank you for giving it a try and alerting me to the fact that there was an error. I should have run it by someone in private before uploading, as the mistake in question was embarrassingly easy to catch. I am very sorry!

...same as JGILB.

5 hours so far, 3 restarts, more unwinds than I care to count. And I've just broken the puzzle again.
I'll restart again tomorrow. Either this is the hardest puzzle on this site, or I'm SERIOUSLY failing to grasp the concept. Stay tuned tomorrow. But Fakey if I can't get this, I sincerely hope you have a solution path ready!
