Cracked Chaos

(Published on 13. August 2024, 19:39 by Astr0creep)

I was part way through setting a puzzle when i accidentally dropped it and it broke into 9 pieces. I put the pieces back together and found they each made a new region, what luck! Perhaps it can be solved with both sets of regions being correct?!

Standard sudoku rules apply:
Fill the grid with numbers 1 to 9 with no repeats on colums, rows or boxes.

Diagonal lines:
Digits may not repeat on either marked diagonal.

Killer cages (additional regions):
Each killer cage is an additional 9 cell region. Numbers cannot repeat in a cage.

Black Kropki Dots - partial negative constraint:
Black dots separate digits with a 1:2 ratio.
All black dots inside a cage are given (where both digits are in the same cage).

Xs - partial negative constraint:
Digits separated by an X add to 10.
All Xs inside a cage are given (where both digits are in the same cage).

Solution code: Diagonal starting top left then diagonal starting bottom left.
18 digits, no spaces

Thank you for this great puzzle! A couple of false starts (got too eager applying the negative constraint across borders), but then everything flowed thoughtfully and cleverly!

Definitely a 4 star puzzle for me, but beautifully constructed!

Astr0creep: I think you are right about 4 star, its the first puzzle I have set so I think i mis-judged it a bit, thanks so much for the lovely comment!

In my opinion this was at least a 3.5 stars puzzle - but what a wonderful one! Enjoyed it very much. Thank you for creating and sharing this gem.

Astr0creep: Thanks so much for solving and the lovely comment! Really glad you enjoyed it

Quite fun. Kept me busy for a while.

Astr0creep: Thanks for solving! i think it may be a little harder than i initially judged it to be, perhaps I should have listed as 4 star.

Tough, but quite fun! Thanks for setting.

Astr0creep: Thanks for solving! Do you think I should have posted it as 4 stars? Always hard to judge the difficulty of a puzzle when making it!

MSDOS: Yea, I think a 4 is appropriate. A good challenge!

A puzzle of optical illusions along the cage borders. I kept seeing negative constraints that didn't exist. Tough puzzle. Highly recommended.

Astr0creep: Thanks so much for the comment. I thought it might catch solvers out a bit, a few areas you really want to illiminate have a pesky border stopping you! Really glad you enjoyed it!

I think, I used the negative constraint only in the two regions in block 7.

Astr0creep: hmm, interesting, it can certainly be used in lots of places to remove potential candidates. I guess you found alternative ways to remove them.
Congratulations on a very fast solve!
