Sett Theory

(Published on 11. August 2024, 20:47 by marty_sears)

This was created for Scojo's recent 'Guess The Setter' stream, which was heaps of fun. People had to vote to guess who they thought set each puzzle. I started off attempting to imitate Juggler's style to throw people off. I think it's fair to say this was completely unsuccessful - this puzzle is me all over and I fooled no one haha. However, people seemed to enjoy it so that's the main thing!

Rules:

  • Fill each row and column with the digits 1-9, without repeats.
  • Each badger lives in a sett of the digits 1-9. A sett is an underground region of nine orthogonally connected cells.
  • Digits don’t repeat in a row, column or sett.
  • Every badger contains a different digit. The digit on a badger equals the number of individual bugs in its sett.
  • Each bug type has a specific value, to be deduced. The digit in a bug cell equals the sum of the bugs in that cell.

Please leave a comment if you enjoy :)

Made two mistakes in the initial tries, and those solved almost the full puzzle, so three of one. Very Nice logic and different steps to solve,

Very beautiful construction.

Beautiful graphics. Bit surprised by the consensus difficulty rating - only 2½ for me.

Too hard for me. On any level. So many deep ideas. Thought I had it multiple times. Realized after 1.5h that the region were almost right and completely wrong. Waiting for a video solve.

That seems to be a happy and very well-organized badger family. I agree with cybers, this requires many kinds of logical thinking. Very nice, thanks!
