Sequential Count (CC)

(Published on 11. August 2024, 17:22 by gdc)

Last week, Scojo hosted a "guess the setter" challenge where puzzle makers were instructed to create a puzzle typical for their style and submit it anonymously. Scojo solved all of the 22 submissions and tried to assign every puzzle a setter. I decided to impersonate another setter for the challenge. Can you figure out who it was? Thanks to scojo for solving this on stream and to the CtC discord for testing. Hope you enjoy!

  • Chaos Construction: Divide the grid into 8 regions of orthogonally connected cells. Fill the grid with the digits 1-8 so that each digit appears once in each row, column and region.
  • Same Difference: Adjacent digits on the same same difference line must have the same difference. Differences may be different for different same difference lines.
  • Counting Circles: A digit in a circle indicates the number of circles (of any color) containing that digit.
  • Circle Count: A digit in a red circle indicates the number of yellow circles in the same region.
  • Minesweeper: A digit in a yellow circle indicates the number of cells of the same region in the (up to 9) surrounding cells, including itself.
  • Given Region Border: r1c6 and r1c7 are in different regions.

Example Puzzle

The same difference lines have constant differences (0 and 1). Both yellow circles (minesweepers) see 2 cells of the same region (themselfes and the cell above) in the surrounding 3x3. The red circle is satisfied since the region has 1 yellow circle in the region.

Solution code: The bottom row left to right with dashes (-) for region borders. For the example puzzle, this would be 2-34-1.

POV when you think you're looking at a Marty puzzle but it's gdc in a trenchcoat.

Despite deliberately trying to confuse me by impersonating one of your smarty peers instead of setting a puzzle in YOUR OWN style, I still loved this puzzle! Great job!

It's a really nice puzzle, but it feels gdc unique style.

I love it when deductions are challenging but still not to hard to find out where to look at. This was hitting this spot perfectly for me.
Thanks a lot for setting and sharing!

This puzzle is delightful. It has some many telltale marks that convinced me it was set by someone else. You've truly captured their essence in this one!
