Puzzle #4: Mighty Triangle
DFM Guest Spot: Dutch Flat Mates (Omnipotent Lines)
Puzzle #5: Taking the scenic route
For the puzzle “X-trapolation”, I have combined the Omnipotent Lines with X-sums. As always, your comments are much appreciated. I wish you happy solving!
- Normal sudoku rules apply, i.e. each row, column and 3x3 region has to contain the digits from 1 to 9 once each.
- X-sums: A clue outside the grid indicates the sum of the first X digits in the respective row or column where X is the first digit seen from the clue.
- Omnipotent Lines: The orange lines are so-called Omnipotent Lines, i.e. each pair of adjacent digits on such a line must fulfill either an X, V, white or black Kropki dot clue. In other words, any pair of adjacent digits on a line must sum to 5 or 10, be consecutive or in a 1:2 ratio. (At least one of these constraints must be met, it is allowed that two are fulfilled simultaneously.)
Example: The digit 3 may be adjacent on a line to either a 2 (V or white Kropki dot), a 4 (white Kropki dot), a 6 (black Kropki dot) or a 7 (X).
Here you can solve the puzzle online:

Another great addition to the series. Got stuck near the end. A hard step to me to crack. Very rewarding thx.

Nice puzzle! I really enjoyed the opening logic. My first time playing with omnipotent lines as well. They seem kind of anti-miraculous (as in more flexible than you might guess at first, leaving unexpected combos on the table). I found myself doing a lot of staring at the ceiling while making sure I'd thought through all the combos. Good fun!

Thank you for your comment, DubiousMobius! I am glad you had a fun solve. As you say, the Omnipotent Lines are quite flexible. The interesting effect is that, once you get a few digits on them, they become restricted very quickly. I know some people have charts with a list of all possible neighbour combos. When I started setting with the constraint I drew a graph displaying which digit can go next to which.

Wonderful! This was my first time trying puzzle with omnipotent lines and they’re quite tricky!! I also got stuck towards the end because I overlooked a clue, but I had tons of fun figuring out all the little deductions. Very nice puzzle!

Thank you for your comment, egubachu! It is nice that you gave the Omnipotent Lines a try. You have not picked the easiest one to get started. If you like to get more practice with them, feel free to do some of the other puzzles in the series. *ads over*
In any case, I am glad that you liked it.
Kind regards, sujoyku
