Domino Reduction
(Published on 30. July 2024, 19:09 by Calesch)
Rules:
Normal sudoku rules apply: place the digits 1-9 once each in every row, column, and box.
Divide all cells that are not shaded gray into 1x2 dominoes, which do not occupy gray cells or overlap.
Make each domino red, blue, or yellow so that:
- Yellow dominoes contain consecutive digits
- Blue dominoes contain digits in a 1:2 ratio
- Red dominoes contain digits that sum to 10
(if you prefer, any other combination of 3 colors also works)
Dominoes of the same color cannot touch orthogonally.
The digit in a cell with an arrow indicates how many dominoes have at least one cell that appears in the given direction.
Example:
Solution code: Row 3, with hyphens (-) between cells of different colors
(gray cells are a different color from domino cells)

Awesome puzzle. Very hard took me 90 minutes. Twice I almost gave up. But very rewarding to find the cool small steps to continue. Great fun thx.

Excellent puzzle, thanks. Very interesting ruleset which I have not seen before, and satisfyingly tricky in parts.
