Counting Apples

Rules:

  • Normal sudoku rules apply.

  • (Additionally) Digits may not repeat within a marked 9-cell irregular region. These regions are separated by a white border. (region colours are purely decorative)

  • Apples: Digits in an apple indicate how many apples contain that digit.

  • Ladders: (thermos) Digits must strictly increase from the bottom of the ladder to the top.

  • Baskets: (brown rectangles) Digits in a basket are the sum of the digits on apples in their column.

This puzzle looks very visually appealing! That's why I clicked on it actually. But then I find it so difficult to scan where the region borders and box borders are. There really ought to be a version without any extra colors seeing as AFAICS solving this requires doing lots of coloring of your own? I feel too impaired to have a fair shot at solving it or gauging what its true difficulty might be.

@MSDOS puzzle looks interesting but it is almost impossible to see any digit in the puzzle.

MSDOS: I found that I needed to have 'outlines on elements' turned on. Shading the puzzle in sudokupad also helps a bit. I tried to make the regions as light as possible without losing the colour. Thanks for the feedback!
