Crossbow (Arrow variant sudoku)

(Published on 10. July 2024, 15:34 by Qodec)

After purpl (Memeristor) recovered and published a 2 year old puzzle of his in which he very kindly lists me as a collaborator, the variant rule used in that puzzle captivated me once more.

  • Sudoku: Each row, column, and region indicated by thick borders in the grid must contain the digits 1 to 9 once each.
  • Even: The cell with the square contains an even digit.
  • Arrows: Digits along an arrow sum to the digit in its attached circle. (Digits may repeat on an arrow if allowed by other rules.)
  • The digit in an arrow's circle must repeat in one or more of the cells pointed at by the arrow's tip, excluding the tip itself. If there are two arrow tips, both must see a repeated circle digit.

Solution code: Columns 1 and 9. I.e. the 9 digits in column 1 from top to bottom, followed by the 9 digits in column 9 from top to bottom, for example: 123456789123456789

Frankly speaking, what a bizarre puzzle with lots of surprising geometric interactions! Funny how it resolved at the end too x)

An incredible puzzle that had some quite frankly unbelievable geometry throughout!

Absolutely incredible geometry! Brilliant work.

Very nice geometry. There is no real break-in but a lovely step-by-step path with a very good flow. A joy to solve.

A beautiful chain of breadcrumbs from start to finish! It felt much harder while solving it than it seems looking back at each step along the way, which I think is a sign of a great construction.

Great idea, especially with the two one-cell arrows!
