Yin Friend Yang

(Published on 9. July 2024, 15:05 by thoughtbyte)

Normal Sudoku rules apply. Additionally:

Yin Yang: divide the grid into three regions. A region is an area of orthogonally connected cells. No 2x2 area may be entirely in one region. As usual with Yin Yang puzzles, it will help to give each of the three regions its own color.

Friendly Yin Yang regions: a cell is friendly if it contains its row, column, or box number. Each digit appears in exactly 3 friendly cells - except the digit 4 which appears in exactly 2 friendly cells. Friendly cells with low digits (1, 2) belong to the first Yin Yang region, friendly cells with Middle-y digits (3, 4) belong to the second Yin Yang region, and friendly cells with high digits (5, 6) belong to the third Yin Yang region.

Evens: cells with grey squares contain even digits.

Note: boxes are numbered from the top left (box 1) to the bottom right (box 6).

Solution code: The digits belonging to the middle-y digit region in column 4, followed by the digits belonging to the high digit region in column 6.

Very nice and clever! A bit tricky in the beginning, but totally fair. I hope this gets more solves, only 2* imo. Thanks!

Enjoyed that rule set. I'd like to see one of these in a 9x9.

Fun rule set, very enjoyable puzzle. Felt more along 3 stars than 4 in terms of difficulty but would love to see more puzzles like this, keep it up!
