Counting Sum Lines

(Published on 24. June 2024, 19:16 by Jolly Rogers)

RULES:

  • Normal Sudoku rules apply.
  • The sum of the digits on a line indicates how many lines in the grid sum to that total.
  • For example, if the digits on a line sum to 10, there must be 10 lines which sum to 10.
  • Digits may repeat on a line if allowed by other rules.

Really good puzzle that took me a while to get into it but then when it clicked, I slowly but surely cracked it!

Thank you for this fantastic puzzle, Jolly Rogers! The deductions of the sum lines were elegant and the set-up felt very harmonious. I have not seen this exact ruleset, but there have been similar ideas. For example, my puzzle "Three in a row" uses an analogous concept with cages (a cage total indicates how many cages have exactly this total).
____________
Thanks for the kind words! Using a similar concept for cage totals sounds interesting, I'm adding Three in a row onto my 'to-be-solved' list :]

Do you know other puzzles using this ruleset or did you come up with it? Enjoyed the solve! Fun adaptation of the lovely counting circles constraint.
______________
Thanks! I hadn't seen this variation of the rule before.
