The Score is Still Q to 12!

(Published on 12. June 2024, 03:59 by Calvinball)

I wanted to solve a snake Sudoku where the snake changed it's properties throughout the solve, I couldn't find one so I made my own!

This also happens to be my first puzzle ever, so I'm very excited to share it with you all!

Feedback indicated this puzzle is closer to 3.5* difficulty, I shall let the solvers vote and decide.

Rules:

  • Normal classic rules apply.
  • Draw a snake in the grid. A snake is a one-cell-wide path of orthogonally connected cells which may not touch itself orthogonally or diagonally.
  • Arrow cells are always snake, and count the total amount of snake cells seen in all indicated directions (If R8C6 sees 4 cells up it’s column and 2 cells along the diagonal then it would be a 6). Arrow cells do not count themselves.
  • Circle cells are the head and tail of the snake, and count the total number of snake cells in their box.
  • Cages represent different zones which dictate how the snake functions through each zone. In the German Whisper Zone the snake functions as a German Whisper Line, along a German Whispers line, consecutive digits must differ by at least 5. In the Entropy Zone the snake functions as a Entropic Line, Along an entropic line, any three consecutive cells must contain a low digit {1,2,3}, a medium digit {4,5,6}, and a high digit {7,8,9}.
  • Where the snake crosses into different zones it doesn’t need to be either Entropic or German Whisper.
  • Cells separated by a white dot are consecutive, not all dots are given.

Happy solving!

Was absolutely convinced I had broken the puzzle towards the end of the snake building until having that "A ha" moment. Very nice.

Nice one, some tricky parts to be solved to make it unfold

Excellent first outing!
You have to change all the rules for the next one.
I really like the regional rules for the snake!
May have to try something like that myself.
Sooner or later all games turn into Calvinball!

Q: rule 3: non snake cells obstruct vision?

Calvin: They do not.

Love the idea, can't believe how well you implemented it in your first ever puzzle! This was very satisfying to solve.

In the bottom of the 3rd half, it's Hobbes with the wicket trying to snake his way through the court!

Excellent first puzzle! I realized I had to be careful near the start of the solve, and there were some tricky deductions throughout (especially when I forget to do Sudoku). The ending was phenomenal, with a final score for me of 100 to %!
