Nurimisaki Whispers 9x9

(Published on 7. June 2024, 19:46 by JustinTucker)

This puzzle is inspired by Nurimisaki Sudoku - Whispers. I wanted to create a version without a given number.
  • The digits 1 to 9 appear once in every row, column and box.
  • Shade some cells such that the remaining unshaded cells form one orthogonally connected area and no 2x2 area of cells in the grid is completely shaded or unshaded.
  • Circles mark every instance of a cell which is unshaded and orthogonally adjacent to exactly one other unshaded cell.
  • The number in a circle indicates how many cells are in the straight line of unshaded cells coming out of the cell with the circle, including itself.
  • Orthogonally adjacent unshaded cells have a difference of at least 5.
  • Penpa.

@JustinTucker

Sorry, I didn't see your first post.
Yes, your solution is fine so far.
Concerning the other question. I know that a lot of people around here differentiate between "logical steps" and bifurcation. I don't see a clear difference. If I have two options and option 1 implies proposition 1 which in turn implies proposition 2 which contradicts something in the puzzle and therefore the result is option 2, is this a logical step or bifurcation? I have no problem with the reductio ad absurdum and the law of excluded middle. But others have, I know. I just wanted to prove uniqueness for a 9x9 without a given.

Ok, my first attempt was very interesting, second try will follow. :)

I haven't solved it (and I have no intention to), but when the first sentence in the puzzle rules literally is the Sudoku rules, it is hard to argue that it isn't a Sudoku.

Shifting the puzzle from "No Sudokus" to "Sudokus" doesn't reflect its essence. There's no need for that.
