Nurimisaki Whispers 9x9
(Published on 7. June 2024, 19:46 by JustinTucker)
This puzzle is inspired by
Nurimisaki Sudoku - Whispers. I wanted to create a version without a given number.
- The digits 1 to 9 appear once in every row, column and box.
- Shade some cells such that the remaining unshaded cells form one orthogonally connected area and no 2x2 area of cells in the grid is completely shaded or unshaded.
- Circles mark every instance of a cell which is unshaded and orthogonally adjacent to exactly one other unshaded cell.
- The number in a circle indicates how many cells are in the straight line of unshaded cells coming out of the cell with the circle, including itself.
- Orthogonally adjacent unshaded cells have a difference of at least 5.
Penpa.

I haven't solved it (and I have no intention to), but when the first sentence in the puzzle rules literally is the Sudoku rules, it is hard to argue that it isn't a Sudoku.

Shifting the puzzle from "No Sudokus" to "Sudokus" doesn't reflect its essence. There's no need for that.
