Diamondback Eggs

(Published on 27. May 2024, 00:17 by Bearded Fool)

Rules:
Sudoku: Normal sudoku rules apply. The digits 1-9 appear once in each row, column, and 3x3 box.

Snakes: Draw nine snakes in the grid, one each of the lengths 1-9. Snakes are orthogonally connected, do not branch nor intersect, and do not touch themselves, even diagonally. Different snakes may touch each other, however. Green circles are the ends of the snakes. All snake ends are given. Each snake must pass through exactly one diamond.

Kropki: White dots separate consecutive digits. A snake must pass through each cell border that has a white dot. Black dots separate digits that are in a 1:2 ratio. Snakes are not permitted to pass through any cell border that has a black dot.

Thermometer: Snakes that have their diamond on one of their ends act as thermometers. Digits along the snake strictly increase as they move away from the diamond. For clarity, snakes with diamonds in the interior of the snake do not act as thermometers.

Eggs: Additionally, all cells that are not snake make up eggs. There are 8 eggs in the puzzle, each is an orthogonally connected group of cells. No eggs are of the same size. Each egg contains a yolk cell that contains a digit equal to its egg’s size. Large, yellow circles are yolk cells. No row, column, 3x3 box, or egg may contain more than 1 yolk. In each egg, digits may not be repeated. A given large, white circle is an egg cell that is not a yolk.

Mayermeight, thanks for the interest! The snake through the middle diamond must be drawn in a way that does not duplicate the size of an already determined egg.

Edit: Actually, you may be right. I'm re-looking over it and have appeared to make an error in the setting. The two eggs in question are interchangeable depending on how the snake is drawn! drat!

Updating the puzzle shortly ...

hi! i am really enjoying your puzzle, but got stuck real bad. could you give me a small hint? i have almost every snake finished, i just cannot determine from which direction the very middle diamond is being crossed over, maybe it comes only later, but nonetheless i am stuck as hell. thanks in advance! lovely puzzle
