Either Way Up

(Published on 26. May 2024, 13:12 by marty_sears)

In my recent collab with Justin Vitanza (AKA Puzzle Pusher), called Chock-a-Block, we invented an Anti-Kropki line. We were both rather fond of the logic it produced, so I have made a puzzle with just those and nothing else.

Rules:

  • Normal sudoku rules apply.
  • Each line is an ANTI-KROPKI line. No two digits anywhere on an anti-kropki line may be consecutive, nor may they have a 1:2 ratio (one being double the other)... but digits may repeat on a line if allowed by sudoku!

3* feels right but definitely more approachable than first seems. Great great puzzle

Cool break in and a really smooth puzzle! The rotational symmetry (of even the given digits!) was a fun idea, and made even cooler by the fact that I didn't feel like I could just repeat whole blocks of logic on the other side.

Gorgeous puzzle. I always have a soft spot for symmetry :-)
One of my own puzzles is a kreska sudoku (in Polish, kropki = dot, kreska = line), but I've never explored its negative cousin. Either way, it's an underappreciated constraint.

Took longer than it should have but brilliant nonetheless.

Another Marty beaut!!! Beautiful logic in here, very well telegraphed! Thank you

I haven't finished the puzzle yet, but I just realized what the title meant. I am in awe with the symmetry and how you managed to disambiguate to a unique solution. What a beautiful construction!

Thanks BBB.

@marty beautiful puzzle. Only feedback i have is that it was difficult to see pencilmarks with the color of the lines. Difficulty i believe was less than 4*

Marty: Thanks Bansalsaab, I've now made the lines a bit of a lighter shade
