Some Kind of Chaos

(Published on 24. May 2024, 09:25 by marty_sears)

Thanks again to BlackjackFitz for inventing the marvellous Somedoku format. I am finding it so fun and flexible to set with!

Rules:

  • SOMEDOKU: Fill the grid with the digits 1-9. Each row N and column N contain exactly N distinct digits, with the rest of the row / column being filled with repeats.
  • CHAOS CONSTRUCTION: Divide the grid into 9 regions, each containing 9 orthogonally connected cells. The finished pattern of regions will have 180 degree rotational symmetry.
  • CIRCLES: The digit in a circle indicates how many distinct digits appear in its region. Eg: A 6 in a circle indicates that the region includes 6 distinct digits (and 3 repeats.) No two circles contain the same digit.
  • REGION SUM LINES: Region borders divide blue lines into segments, each of which have the same sum. Each blue line must cross at least one region border.

Another amazing puzzle, loved the deductions in it, and how it looks daunting but actually gives way reasonably easily. The 180 degree symmetry is a really fun rule to combine with this kind of construction.

Wow, I've solved a 5⭐ puzzle for the first time ever! And it only took me 3½ hours...
Difficult, but fair. Everything was deducible ... eventually.

Fantastic puzzle! I on the other hand made so many mistakes, I don't think you could call what I did for a solve. Got there in the end though :)

...and this is why we call him 'Mad Marty'.

I must have spent half of my solve waiting for it to break, revealing a bad deduction I made an hour ago. The suspense until the last digit made for an immensely satisfying finish. So incredible!

Wonderful. CC + somedoku clearly are a great combo

Smooth and enjoyable, especially once you remember the symmetry rule after 30 minutes :D

Wow, brilliant! It was quite a journey finding the symmetry in the chaos

Brilliant puzzle, the symmetry aspect to the region building was really fun to figure out!

Lovely puzzle! I was a bit confused by the wording on the "somedoku" rule, but it was only my own misconceptions.

Really funky CC concept, enjoyed it, thanks!
