Snake Farm

(Published on 20. May 2024, 23:11 by cristophermoore)

Standard Sudoku rules apply. The grid is divided into 9 snakes. Each snake is a path of length 9, starting at its tail in the southwest and moving orthogonally north or east — never west or south — to its head in the northeast. Three heads (red diamonds) and two tails (green squares) are shown, pointing to the next cell in that snake.

Digits in a snake cannot repeat. The snake that contains the blue dot is a thermosnake, with digits increasing from its tail to its head. Adjacent digits connected by a dot differ by 1 if the dot is white, and have a ratio of 1:2 if the dot is black.

Loved it! Very neat idea and impressive that it resolves with so few clues.

Might be my favorite puzzle so far. Im new to these build-your-own-region puzzles, so it was challenging, but always felt logical and approachable. Thank you!

Thank you dmgciubotaru! I'm really glad you enjoyed it. I respect everyone's opinion, including SKORP's, but I hope the current rating doesn't drive potential solvers away. Hopefully more people will try it and the rating will improve. - Cris

@dmg that is known as the SKORP effect. He downgrades puzzle ratings habitually, just can’t help himself. Half the puzzles he solves he gives 1/5 for quality. It seems he thinks he’s making the world a better place, rather than simply being irritating. But we still appreciate him so very much around here.

Such a delightful puzzle, I love the logic derived from snake construction and how the thermo ambiguity solves. I can't understand how this puzzle doesn't have at least 95% rating...
