UEFA EURO 2024 Opening Game

(Published on 20. May 2024, 14:10 by Arlo Lipof)

In exactly 25 days the UEFA EURO 2024 tournament will kick off in Munich. This Sudoku is a prediction of the last-minute winning goal for hosts Germany against Scotland in the opening game. In this aerial view the big circles represent five German attacking players, the missing digits being their shirt numbers. The attached arrows show the home team's passing, dribbling and shooting of the ball, from the initial corner kick to the decisive goal. The killer cage represents (the visible part of) Scotland’s goal, the black dot is the Scottish goalkeeper, and the white dots are the Scottish field players defending in extra time.

Rules:

  • Normal Sudoku rules apply.
  • Killer cages. In cages, digits must sum to the small clue given in the top left corner.
  • Arrows. Digits along arrows must sum to the digit in the attached circle. In this puzzle all circled digits are different.
  • Palindromes. Grey lines are palindromes, i.e. they read the same in both directions.
  • Kropki. Digits separated by a white dot are consecutive. Digits separated by a black dot are in a 1:2 ratio. Not all dots are shown.

Links: F-Puzzles, CTC (in the CTC app the arrows are partly covered by the palindromic lines.)

Bonus: In the solved grid the final score is (barely) hidden in the first row. Please enjoy!

Solution code: Box 9, from top to bottom and from left to right

Super neat puzzle and theme! This one had me stumped for a long while until I realized I was overlooking some simple and neat logic that wrapped things up nicely. I really enjoyed this one, thanks!

I can't enter the solution code. The instructions are confusing.
Are there 9 digits (box 9 top to bottom, left to right ) or 18 digits (9 for box 9 top to bottom and 9 for box 9 left to right)?
I tried both and it didn't work

A: The 9 digits of box 9, entered row by row.

Why are there only 9 Scottish field players? Are you predicting a red card also? Hahha

A: There’s always this one striker that doesn’t defend.

Very nice puzzle, which deserves a higher rating!

A: Thank you, I honestly don’t understand the ratings.
