Chaos Construction: Disconnected (2)

(Published on 20. May 2024, 04:09 by KNT)

Place the numbers from 1 to 9 exactly once in every row, column, and region. One number is already given. The regions are themselves connected, orthogonally, diagonally, or possibly both, and must be located by the solver.

A number in the top left corner of a cell indicates the sum of the numbers in the orthogonally connected section of the region that cell belongs to. A question mark can be any number from 0 to 9, and for all double digit clues, none may have a leading zero. A colored cell indicates the size of the orthogonally connected section of the region that cell belongs to. All possible colored cells are given.

Solution code: Row 1 then Row 4, with hyphens between region borders (no need for a hyphen between the two rows).

Very fun and smooth puzzle. Not too difficult despite the ruleset, which makes most normal chaos construction logic basically useless. Very interesting logic in here.

Very cool! Interestingly there's a lot more flexibility with the irregular sudoku at the end.

I moved one of the clues to provide a more linear solving experience.

Super fun and pretty smooth solve, but also easy to make mistakes in this one given such unusual scanning between the regions. It's also very cute how the final regions were determined too :)

For future solvers: I actively recommend to only use colors when you're really sure that you can determine different regions, and mainly use lines mode for region segments that may belong to those colored regions.

KNT was really quick to come up with this 9x9 masterpiece! It is so engaging and has such intricate logic. Every step forward was so rewarding. Thanks a lot for sharing. I hope Simon features this on CtC soon. It will be great fun to watch making him tough choices of colours and forced to do occasional Sudoku very early on.

Very smooth and clever construction!

My brain is just not wired for diagonal connections. Was pretty difficult for me. Very clever construction as always.

Not that hard indeed, but no less beautiful ! Thanks :)

This need to be on CTC ASAP - if only to watch Simon running out of colors … :P
