Can You Count the Whispers?

Your feedback, ratings and comments are highly appreciated. Have fun!

Puzzle link: Play on SudokuPad.

Rules: Normal Sudoku rules apply. Draw a single, non-intersecting loop that connects orthogonally or diagonally adjacent cells and acts as a German Whispers line, i.e., adjacent cells along the loop differ by 5 or more. A digit in an arrow cell counts the not necessarily contiguous loop cells seen along the arrow direction outside of the arrow cell. For cells with more than one arrow, each arrow separately leads to the indicated sum. Not all arrows are necessarily given.

Solution code: All digits of row 4 (from left to right) followed by column 1 (from top to bottom) without spaces.

Great puzzle! For me it was far from 5 stars, probably more on the harder side of 3*. Interesting to se how different people struggle with different kinds of puzzles:)

Very nice puzzle. I broke it the first time and had to start over. It took me more than an hour the second time through.

Brilliant and fun puzzle! Thank you

Many thanks! If I take the liberty and interpret your username, maybe you could be interested in attempting my puzzle "Snooker" (000CK4) in which the player has to clear a Snooker table. Like in the present puzzle, one also has to find a path, which in that case is the path the cue ball takes between shots. - TB

I think this had just enough clues for a puzzle with diagonal movement to not be frustratingly hard, haha. Still a very challenging puzzle, I enjoyed it very much.

- TB

Very hard and very nice! Allowing for diagonal movement of the loop is something I’d love to see more loop puzzles do! It really diversified the logic and added a lot more air into this puzzle! Thanks for sharing :)

So glad you liked it! If you indeed enjoy the concept of diagonal movements, may I suggest to consider trying my puzzles "Remote-Controlled Robot" (000CL6) and "Laser Maze" (000HRX) in both of which one has to use orthogonal and diagonal path segments. Thank you for your comment :) - TB

Loved that one. Consistent difficulty all the way to the end, lots of stuff to think about.
