Flows flow like mercury from bulbs, through valves, to tips.

Essentially, valves act as tips to bulbs, and as bulbs to tips (to tips unseen by bulbs.)
Networks of valves continue established flows towards tips. Establishing which direction the flows flow is a part of the puzzle.
