I like to thank CaptZebraCakes for testing and discussing the puzzle. In the links below, I have provided two versions of the puzzle: the one which is displayed in the picture and one with a given digit. The puzzle solves without any givens, but one step in my solve path comes dangerously close to bifurcation. So you can choose for yourself whether you like to have the given digit or not. I think with the given digit the difficulty should still be around 4/5. As always, your comments are much appreciated. I wish you joyful solving!
- Normal sudoku rules apply.
- XV: Orthogonally adjacent digits never sum to either 5 or 10. For example, the digit 1 is never orthogonally adjacent to either 4 or 9.
- Split Sum Multiplier Cages: All cages are Split Sum Multiplier cages. In such a cage digits do not repeat and the digits can be split into two sets such that their separate sums multiply to the given clue.
Example: A four cell Split Sum Multiplier Cage with a 40-clue could contain the digits 1, 3, 4 and 5 (as (1+3+4)*5=8*5=40 or (3+5)*(1+4)=8*5=40) but also 1, 2, 3 and 8 (as (1+3)*(2+8)=4*10=40).
Here you can solve the puzzle online:
Version without given digits (as in the picture above):
Version with one given digit:
Solution code: Row 3 from left to right (9 digits in total)

I solved the version with the given and it was hard enough :) but fair after I remembered the negative constraint and learned what questions I was supposed to ask. Amazing construction! This is 100/100 nice.

Thank you for your kind comment, sorryimLate! I also think the puzzle with the given still is a good challenge. The given digit is only meant to help with one deduction that felt a little "chainy" to me, apart from that it softens the solve path only very slightly. As you have mentioned, the negative constraint is indeed crucial. I am glad that you enjoyed the solve.

Congratulations on your 100th published puzzle! I'm sure I have solved a lot of them and they were all great and fun! This one was brilliant and quite challenging. I did solve it without the given digit. I hope you will set another 100 at least. Thank you so much.

Great puzzle for your 100! Had a lot of fun solving it. And it was also a very smooth solve for me. Solved the version without given digit and rated it 3/5 for difficulty.
