One way or the other

(Published on 6. April 2024, 15:26 by sujoyku)

At the moment, I am experimenting with some slight variations/additions to the killer sudoku ruleset. I am trying to give the puzzles a little twist while keeping most of the usual logic of the variant. In this puzzle, I have combined killer cages and counting circles with an exclusivity condition. No digit may both appear in a circle and a cage. Since the break-in might not be that obvious, I have estimated difficulty at 3/5. As always, your comments are highly appreciated. I wish you joyful solving!

- Normal sudoku rules apply.

- Exclusivity: No digit from 1 to 9 may appear in both a circle and a killer cage. In other words: If a digit appears in a circle, it may not be contained in any killer cage and vice versa. (Which digits appear in circles resp. cages has to be determined by the solver.)

- Killer cages: Digits in a cage sum to the clue in the top left.

- Arrows: Digits on an arrow sum to the digit in the circle from which the arrow emerges.

- Counting Circles: A circled digit indicates exactly how many circles contain that digit. (Note that this also includes circles with emerging arrows.)
