Three in a row

(Published on 3. April 2024, 23:10 by sujoyku)

A few days ago, I have solved the puzzle “Just Circles“ by Memeristor in which cage cells function as counting circles. That gave me the idea to apply the Counting Circles-logic to cage totals, i.e. that a cage total indicates exactly how many cages have this particular total. This was the starting point for the following puzzle. I like to thank CaptZebraCakes for testing and giving feedback on the puzzle. Its difficulty could be on the easier side of 3/5. Please feel free to write in the comments how you liked the puzzle. I wish you happy solving!

- Normal sudoku rules apply.

- German whispers line: Adjacent digits on the green line must have a difference of at least 5.

- Kropki dots: Digits joined by a black dot have a 1:2 ratio. Digits joined by a white dot are consecutive. (Not all dots are given.)

- Counting cage totals: Digits in a cage sum to the total in the top left which has to be determined by the solver. A cage total indicates exactly how many cages have this exact total.

Example: If the digits in a cage sum to 6, then there are exactly 6 cages whose cage total is equal to 6.

Here you can solve the puzzle online:

Very beautiful puzzle, thank you, dear sujoyku! I first got lost stupidly on the whiskers line but finally got it. I really enjoyed solving it! :)

Very nicely executed logic and a tight puzzle in general. I especially enjoyed the final bit of logic between the cages. Thanks!

You are much welcome, Enkerro, thank you for the comment! I am glad that you enjoyed the final logic to distinguish the last cages. Overall, that is also my own favourite deduction in the puzzle.

Gorgeous puzzle, clever break-in (math-y but not too much) and cool final step for the last cages. Wonderful setting!

**
Thank you for your comment, Fra314! It is nice to hear that you liked the (slightly) mathy break-in. If I understand you correctly, you are referring to my favourite deduction in the solve. I was very happy that the counting cage totals still prove to be important for finishing the puzzle.
