Slingshot Skirmish 1 - First Strike

(Published on 31. March 2024, 10:10 by Allagem)

Slingshots, first introduced by Stephane Bura here, are one of my favorite constraints and I've wanted to set a puzzle with them for a long time. I haven't seen too much experimentation combining Slingshots with other constraints, and I think there are plenty of interactions to explore. While setting this puzzle, I found so many interesting ideas that I couldn't squeeze them all into one puzzle, so I decided to start a new series of puzzles!

In case anyone is unfamiliar with slingshots, I created an easy 6x6 example. (Anyone is free to use this example in their own puzzle. The internal LMD image ID is 000N8E and the puzzle link is tinyurl.com/CtC-SlingshotWarmup.)

Slingshots: The digit adjacent to the base of a bent arrow also appears in the direction of the arrow at the distance indicated by the digit on the arrow.
6x6 Slingshot Example.

I hope you enjoy my latest puzzle and the first entry in the Slingshot Skirmish series, First Strike!

Normal Sudoku rules apply.

Renban Lines: Digits on a pink line form a non-repeating, consecutive set of numbers in any order.

German Whispers: Adjacent digits on a green line differ by 5 or more.

Slingshots: The digit adjacent to the base of a bent arrow also appears in the direction of the arrow at the distance indicated by the digit on the arrow. (For example, if r2c1 was 7 and r3c1 was 4, then r3c5 must also be 7.)

Really enjoyable variation. Saw the others in the series, so thought I should try the original . Great logic and took a couple of restarts to work I out. Thanks for the puzzle

This was great! There are some really clever ideas in this puzzle. Even though it's not the most difficult, it requires some careful thought to solve
