Nuts and Bolts the Sequel: Mowing the Lawn

(Published on 26. March 2024, 00:13 by KMD)

Hello, Kennet's Dad here. This is the sequel to my puzzle Nuts and Bolts. In this puzzle, I introduce "Garden Path Lines," a line constraint based on Region Sum Lines.

Rules:

  • Normal sudoku rules apply.
  • Box borders divide a line into segments with different sums: for red lines, one sum will be double the other; for yellow lines, one sum will be triple the other; for blue lines, one sum will be quadruple the other. For clarification; if a line passes through a box on separate passes, these instances are summed together as though it were one pass.
  • Digits in a cage sum to the number in the top left corner of that cage.
Solve using Sven's Sudokupad.

Solution code: Column 5

Whew, I had a tough time with this one! But it is a very nice puzzle. There is some clever logic hiding in there that I eventually discovered.

I highly recommend solving "Garter Snakes" first as a more accessible intro to Garden Path lines.

Thank you for sticking through and finding it at the very least a little clever. I appreciate it.

Fun and interesting puzzle, even if it did take me a long time to get it started.
Maybe I'll go back and try the original now, which I banged my head on for quite some time.

Well, I am happy to hear you stuck with this one, and found it interesting. Do keep working on the first one :)

There is some lovely logic in this puzzle and those new lines have potential - thanks for setting.
