⛐ Country-Road-Loop ⛐

(Published on 16. March 2024, 07:15 by ElChiglia)

---- RULES ----

Irregular Sudoku rules apply: Fill the grid with digits 1 to 9 appearing once each in every row, column, and outlined region.

Country-Road Parity Loop: Draw a single 1-cell-wide loop of orthogonally connected cells into the grid that enters no cell more than once. Adjacent digits along the loop have opposite parity. Note, the loop can touch itself. The loop must enter every outlined region exactly once and if two cells that share an edge belong to two different regions, at least one of the cells must be part of the loop.

Circles: Digits in circles count the number of loop cells in the respective region.

Oof. I found the sudoku part at the end to be rough. I'm still new to this irregular sudoku style, so that made it harder still.

I had a little bit of trouble with the sudoku of odd digits (I can easily place all the even digits)
----
I'm glad you still made it in the end and I hope it was not too much of a bother. I agree, the odds are the most complicated part of this puzzle, they involve a few steps which are trickier, in particular if one is not used to irregular Sudoku. I think it depends a bit on how lucky one is while scanning for the next weak cell(s) and unfortunately I assume that's also why some people didn't like it that much. I had a few versions of this puzzle (including one with one circle and one given less) but this one was the only one where bifurcation (or similar techniques) was not needed :)

Great puzzle! Definitely had to read the rules carefully, but lots of great loop-building logic followed by some interesting irregular Sudoku.

Haha, I had to check the rules a couple of times to realize what they did not say... This required new kind of thinking and it took some time to find a starting point, but then flowed beautifully. Well done!
